The Bicycle Gallery @ Oakland First Fridays – April 5th 2013

The Bicycle Gallery had a smooth ride out to the April edition of Oakland First Fridays –
it was a warm sunny afternoon, people were out early checking out the art, hitting up the
bars along Telegraph Ave. I set up this time at the main entrance to the event – at Grand &
Telegraph Ave. – in eyeshot of The Fox theater and the grand opening celebration of the new
Sculpture Art Park. Since the last time The Bicycle Gallery was out, I made some alterations
to the cart to save some weight and give me better storage and display space. Thank you to
everyone I met that evening for your support and wonderful conversations!

I recently finished cutting a whole bunch of birch panels for my next wood series.
Birch is considered one of the most Archival woods for painting. Many of the other
commonly used woods for paintings are hardwoods with fine grains.

This recycled bicycle was originally designed for the Burning Man Festival in Nevada.

It has since been featured in my “Steambox Dreamworld” solo exhibition at the Oakland Art Murmur

as well as the Jack London Square bicycle festival “Pedalfest” in Oakland, California in 2011.

 

Fully constructed out of recycled and found objects, I enjoy sharing this idea with

adults and children alike, to encourage creativity and recycling in our every day lives.

been working with different printers in the San Francisco Bay Area to find the right match of
quality and attention to detail – this image was captured at 100% (2ftx4ft) with the latest scan
back technology available. The image is scanned line by line through a high end digital camera
lens to be able to replicate every tiny detail and brush stroke at 100%. Prints are available through
my online store in a few different sizes, but if you would like to order a print at 100% (2ftx4ft),

Painted Live @ Symbiosis Gathering 2012

May 18th – 20th, 2012

Live Painting at Symbiosis was an incredible and intense experience – Dust storms, high winds
and the hot dry desert air made painting on this 8ft panel a good challenge –

During the hot days my paints dried up a minute after hitting my palette, and the dust settling
on the painting’s surface washed out the shadows and sucked up the highlights. The picture
above shows the painting that was finally revealed to me after layers upon layers of dust were
washed off when I got back to my studio. I’ll be putting in more time on “Ancient Future”
to get it ready for public viewing sometime soon. I’ll post pics of the final painting here on my blog.
